A checksum (which is sometimes called hash sum, hash value or simply hash) is a value calculated using certain algorithms. Its purpose is to provide a method of verification for the authenticity of that file. If even one byte of the file changes, the hash sum dramatically changes. So authenticity is verified by generating the checksum for your file and comparing it with the value you have. If they perfectly match it means that the file hasn't been altered.
EF CheckSum Manager is a checksum generator and verifier. It supports the following formats: SFV, MD5 and SHA1.
The program’s interface is very simple. Besides the checksum functionalities, it can also execute typical file operations like copying, moving, renaming, etc.
Hash sum generation speed is acceptable when dealing with files of small or medium size. When operating with a large volume of data - a huge number of files or a very large file - it takes a while to generate the checksum but that’s not necessarily the application’s fault, it’s just that the algorithm has to perform a lot of calculations.
Overall, this is a good program but it’s so simple, so straight to the point (create checksum, verify checksum) that not much can be said about it. It just does what it has to do - not more, not less.
